A word with Cuban origins,
"masacote" denotes the mass
rhythm created by the combination of the basic percussion Instruments
in salsa/mambo (the
conga, guiro, timbales, clave, and bongo).
Comprised by a small team of talented individuals, Masacote Entertainment
embraces its members' unique artistic views to promote the advancement
of and foster an appreciation for the art of salsa and various music
forms on an international scope through music expression, dance
performance, and use of imagery.
Masacote Entertainment
started as a concept in January 2002 between Joel and Ana Massicot,
a month after they met at a dance social in New York City.
The couple saw a need to bridge the growing disconnect between music
and dance and a wonderful opportunity to merge their unique talents
in dance, music, and photography to highlight the artistry of salsa.
This concept did not
become a reality until the Summer of 2003, when the company was
formally founded in Okinawa, Japan. Today, the company is
currently based out of Boston/Cambridge, MA under the direction
of Ana and Joel, now husband and wife. The founders offer
salsa instruction and performances, musical services, and photography
around the world.
