ANA TINAJERO
Ana Tinajero, 16, junior, Yvonne A. Ewell Townview Center science and engineering magnet.  Her parents are Felimon and Carmen Tinajero.

 

 

     Ana has high school star quality: brains (advanced-placement courses this year in chemistry, computer science, U.S. history, calculus, physics and English, plus courses in robotics and independent study of math); cover-girl looks (she does fashion-show modeling); and an outgoing personality.
     She has choreographed the

 

 

school's Cinco de Mayo program, writes for the magnet paper, is in the League of United Latin American Citizens and Pan American Student Forum clubs and is vice president of the National Honor Society.
     I'm always ready for new things," she says.  She loves to dance and write, especially poetry, and enjoys live theater.

 

 

     She says her supportive family helps her weather negativity.  "People have told me, 'Oh, you're Hispanic, you won't succeed.'  That just pushes me even more."
     Up next year: seven advanced-placement courses,  plus studio art class.  After that, she's considering Stanford or MIT and graduate research overseas.
